Why this gets examined

  • Very common procedure in many DGHs
  • Shared airway surgery
  • Risk of major haemorrhage
  • Risk of aspiration
  • Day case surgery

Tonsillectomy is usually a paediatric procedure, but it does crop up in adults too.

Fortunately most of the plan and anaesthesia is similar, (except maybe the gas induction bit) however adults do usually throw other comorbidities into the mixture a little more frequently than children.
